UHMG Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Division Upgrades to ISO 9001: 2015 Standards
Uganda Health Marketing Group’s supply chain unit, the Product Facility (PF) was awarded the ISO Standards 9001:2015 certificate.
The certification was awarded by Nemko after a rigorous process of assessing products, systems, installations and personnel for conformity with relevant standards and regulations. The ISO 9001:2015 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). Organizations use the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
According to Mr. Moses Kafeero, there were a lot of peer reviews and auditors checked everything and we had hurdles, there were non conformities, along the way and we had to confirm everything, so many people came on board to kick start the process.
The Product Facility also runs the Alternative Distribution Strategy that was birthed in January 2015 when Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Health, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Uganda Health Marketing. The strategy is designed to improve the handling, storage, and distribution of family planning commodities to the private sector over the next five years.
The certificate demonstrates the Product Facility’s ability to consistently provide health products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. The supply chain is tasked to procure, store and distribute health products for the GoodLife including among many hot-pink, Protector, “O” condoms, water purification tablets Aqua Safe, Injectaplan, PilPlan Plus, SoftSure, Moon Beads among others.
