Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of this position is to coordinate UHMG’s HIV/AIDS-related activities for the program including planning, implementing and reporting. The position is responsible for supporting the team in the coordination of work and follow-up with all the partners in the field and government ministries.
This position requires a person who has specific hands-on knowledge and skills in designing, planning, implementing and monitoring HIV/AIDS programs especially in prevention and palliative care, with an understanding of social issues related to HIV, including gender, as a cross-cutting issue. The person should have the capacity to work under minimum supervision, be proactive, manage competing priorities, and follow-up on set targets, as well as undertake timely reporting, while upholding our Core Values.
Essential Job Functions:
The HIV/AIDS Program Officer will be specifically responsible for the following tasks:-
- Work with the HIV/AIDS Program Manager to coordinate HIV-related activities for the program including planning, implementing and reporting.
- Work with private health practitioners to scale up the provision of HIV prevention and care services and products.
- Support communication and marketing activities to ensure dissemination of information on the correct use of products for prevention and care in HIV/AIDS.
- Identify and organize training and supervision of key private health practitioners providing prevention and care services.
- Work closely with partners of UHMG as well as participate in designing and executing monitoring and evaluation of the HIV/AIDS activities.
- Undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences or Public Health. A medical background by training or through work exposure is an added advantage. Excellent knowledge and sound understanding of current issues and developments in the field of HIV/AIDS (e.g., positive living, gender). Good knowledge of MS Office programs like Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. At least 3 years experience working in health and HIV programming. Experience in working with national and community HIV/AIDS programs. Specific hands-on knowledge and skills in designing, planning, implementing and monitoring HIV AIDS programs especially in prevention and palliative care. Experience in working with the private sector and NGOs is an added advantage. Should be flexible, innovative, with proposal/reporting writing, communication, presentation, interpersonal, and team work skills, as well as networking, facilitation, strategic thinking. A self-starter, and able to work with minimum supervision.
Able to work under pressure with competing deadlines. Able to work with a multi-cultural environment within the organization.
