HIV / AIDS
We support and promote HIV initiatives with a particular focus on men and women of reproductive age, discordant couples and most at risk populations (MARPS).
MALARIA
We focus on prevention and treatment. UHMG distributes and promotes the use of long lasting insecticide nets (LLINs), proper diagnosis and use of Artemisinin combination therapy (ACT).
REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH
We utilise an integrated family planning program to promote smaller, healthier and more prosperous families. UHMG builds the capacity of health workers, champion mothers, hero couples to encourage families (both men and women) to undertake FP services as well as practices that promote proper pregnancy care, safe delivery and neonatal care.
MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH
We focus on private health facilities and community based practical methods to promote health and safety of children, safe water, hygiene and sanitation including water treatment using chlorine based water purification tablets (Aqua safe tablets); prevention and management of diarrhea following the Oral Rehydration therapy (ORT) guidelines. Infant and young feeding is promoted at the household level while case management of
malnutrition is done at health service provision level. Malaria prevention and treatment is also addressed in this program through the effective use of LLINs, maintaining malaria safe homes (without bushes and stagnant water pools) and effective referral for treatment.
COMMODITY SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
We operate a Health care products commodity supply chain, warehousing and distribution facility which stocks a variety of pharmaceutical products and acts as an intermediary for the supply of public health products at competitive prices and terms to local NGOs, private sector clinics and pharmacies across the country. Our primary focus for the product facility remains to address social concerns rather than operate as a commercial entity.
UHMG CAPABILITIES
We Innovate and implement evidence based social marketing approaches responsive to consumer health
needs.
We design and replicate effective behavior change communication campaigns and disseminate research
based community relevant IEC materials. UHMG has gained national and regional recognition for its niche in creating communication strategies that combine education and entertainment.
We mobilize communities to address even the most sensitive life health topics in a format that’s palpable and relevant. Using the Model village concept, communities are empowered to take charge of their health and take action for prevention and treatment (using the referral mechanism to health facilities) of common diseases and health situations that affect the family.
We utilize the power of synergy. UHMG partners with the private sector to increase effective accessibility of health products and services from less to harder-to-reach in the country. UHMG utilizes a network of local manufacturers, independent distributors and social entrepreneurs who resell health products affordably through local outlets to the furthest outpost at full cost recovery.
We practice Community Social Responsibility (CSR) vigorously and it has become infectious. Every year the UHMG team organizes community health fairs and outreaches in hard-to-reach areas with the support of businesses, private health providers, public entities, independent citizens, community leaders and good will donors. During these activities some of the neediest communities receive health care education, services and products for free or at a reduced cost.
